Hermann Goepfert - Painterly

Hermann Goepfert's late paintings

The œuvre of Hermann Goepfert (1926 – 1982) is distinguished by his intensive study of the phenomena of light, motion and space. From his early white, grey and black pictures, through the static and kinetic reflectors of what was probably his most intensive creative period, his artistic path led back to painting.

LIGHT IS FORM

The credo of Hermann Goepfert (1926-1982)

Galerie Dierking devotes its current exhibition to the hitherto lesser-known works on canvas dating from Goepfert's final period (from 1978) when he was living in Antwerp. In these imposing representations of light and shade, Goepfert renders in painting his observations of light and reflection, perfected over many years. Hermann Goepfert started as a painter and later returned to painting. He died suddenly in Antwerp  in 1982.
