Hans Bischoffshausen
Biography
Hans Bischoffshausen is born in 1927 in Feld am See, Carinthia, Austria. In 1947 he begins to study Architecture at the TH Graz. In the mid 50ies he plunges into painting. In 1959 he wins the 1st Joanneum award for contemporary painting in Graz. The prize enables his residence in Paris from 1959 - 1971. 1960 he wins the award of the Gesellschaft der Freunde zeitgenössischer Kunst (friends of contemporay art), Secession, Vienna. In 1961 Peak of monochrome structural reliefs 1962 Beginning of Apparition Series In 1964 the first issue of the magazine Bischoffshausen und die Kultur is published. In 1969 the last edition of the magazine Bischoffshausen und die Kultur is produced. 1972 begins a gradual destruction of the optic nerve on both eyes. In 1973 serial material pictures are created. From 1977 Blind – late works with and on paper arise. During 1977 - 1987 he works together with Gerhard Lojen, Gruppe 77 on the project Stille (silence). In 1987 Bischoffshausen dies in Villach, Carinthia, Austria
