The Senufo language
can only be rendered according
to the international phonetic alphabet,
since no written language exists

The Senufo language can only be rendered according to the international phonetic alphabet, since no written language exists. The spelling of the Senar words appearing in this book corresponds approximately to the manner of Kafiri used by Förster, which is spoken mainly in the souspréfecture Sirasso. This does not apply to the texts of Patrick Girard, who uses a different phonetic spelling in collaboration with Pierre Boutin.

This is the first publication devoted exclusively to the statues of the Poro men of the Senufo. The color illustrations of the largely unpublished specimens, the field photographs of finding the statues in the bush, and the informative text make it a handbook for collectors, dealers, and scholars, as well as for interested laymen.

Pascal Dutoy, Ghent University, Dec. 10, 2002: "Sincere congratulations for the historical and scientific treatment of this subject at the highest level. This book is a reference work not only for the present but also for future generations - a "must" for every Africanist."

Bernard deGrunne, gallery owner, Brussels, 10/31/2002: "This book is a great work. Bravo".

Hélène Leloup, gallerist, Paris, 11/14/2002: "An important book, a wealth of information, magnificent images, a beautiful layout".

Lance Entwistle, gallery owner, London, 24.11.2002: "An important, informative and beautiful book - a must for every collector and dealer".
